Earth-friendly and socially responsible, since day one.

Studio E Hand Painted Wallpaper was founded on the ideals of respect for artisans, use of nature’s materials, and the time-honored techniques of hand painting and finishing. So not surprisingly, we are in step with the rising public concern over the effects that modern products and production methods have on the environment.

We pioneered a “back to basics” approach back in 1999 with the launch of our hand painted wallpaper, and nothing has changed about our product and production since we began. Here’s where we stand, based on universally recognized criteria for assessing a product or company’s overall environmental impact.

ü  Domestically made, entirely by hand, using pre-industrial methods and materials.

ü  Manufactured in an energy-efficient, machinery-free studio, which creates no emissions.

ü  Painted with water-borne paints and plasters, which are lower in VOC than oil/solventborne types.

ü  Backed with primarily post-consumer recycled poly/cellulose fiber (renewable) or bio-degradable paper.

ü  Non-vinyl, therefore permeable, which aids in inhibiting mold and mildew growth.

ü  Neither vinyl nor pre-pasted. Vinyl and pre-pasted papers emit high levels of VOC.

ü  Adhesive-free. We recommend the use of eco-friendly pastes.

ü  Highly durable, with low maintenance requirements; Easily de-installs by dampening with a little water.

ü  Produced solely “to order” and supplies are purchased accordingly.

ü  Free of highly toxic compounds, and production does not result in highly toxic by-products.

ü  Studio E continually recycles and remixes its paints for use on subsequent orders, creating scant waste.

ü  Studio E obtains materials locally -except for those which are essential, but unavailable locally.

Studio E’s awareness goes beyond our products and production practices to include social integrity. We look to benefit our local and global communities in other ways, by contributing our surplus wallpaper to charitable causes with socially responsible agendas. Additionally, we promote a positive message for humankind by ardently supporting the International Rescue Committee* (IRC.) We offer artistic training and employment opportunities to those from areas of strife, who seek refuge in the USA. Our IRC recruits have benefited with long-term job security enabling them to improve their quality of life here, and their families’ lives back home.

*Founded in 1933, the IRC is committed to freedom, human dignity, and self-reliance. This commitment is expressed in emergency relief, protection of human rights, post-conflict development, resettlement assistance, and advocacy.
